My name is Jenny Marcus and I need a kidney to live

Every day 13 people die waiting for a kidney

My Story

I am an active 79-year old woman with end-stage kidney disease. I have a rich life —there are so many things I want to do! I have a wonderful son, James, who lives with his loving and talented wife, Vlada about an hour away. They are planning a family and I can’t wait to welcome grandchildren and play a role in their lives as they grow. My younger sister Lynn lives in England. She is just out of a year of isolation and longs for me to visit. Neither my sister nor son are suitable to be donors.

My partner for nearly 30 years died in February 2021 after a few years of declining health and frequent hospital stays. I nursed him through the last year of his life and he died peacefully at home. His daughters and their families have been part of my life for a long time and are so dear to me.

I had an active social life before Covid. (Now I see my friends on Zoom.) I am delighted to be fully vaccinated so we can gradually begin to socialize once they are vaccinated too.

My dog, Licorice, is a 3-year old miniature Goldendoodle who loves our twice-daily walks and meeting people along the way. I plan to train Likky as a therapy dog so we can visit the elderly, hospital patients, and school children to provide amusement as well as emotional support.

I practice yoga and use an exercise machine 6 days a week to stay fit. In 2003, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Celiac Disease. I modified my diet and was able to support my kidney function. Through my efforts, I managed to avoid dialysis and its unfortunate side effects. However, now I have Stage 5 CKD which means 90% of my kidney function is gone. The time has come for a transplant. Fortunately, I am in otherwise good health and just need to find a donor who will work with me so I can enjoy all that life has to offer. I need to find a generous person who will donate a kidney and enable me to continue to live. You will be my Hero giving me life.
